What we do ?
We have a programme of Go-Ride coaching sessions throughout the year - learning good bike control, safe riding, fun racing and, for those who show interest and aptitude, slightly more serious age-related races against other Go-Ride Clubs.
Our coaching sessions are currently open to young people aged from 5 to 13, and from 2013 it is intended that the age range will be increased to 16.
The coaches will take the youngsters through warming-up exercises, bike-check exercises, before moving on to tasks that teach bike-control in various guises. It will be on grass, tarmac or rough tracks and flat or hilly terrain. Parents are reporting how confident their children have become on their bikes and that their bike-handling is so much better than it was before they joined the Clydesdale Colts. This skill also prepares riders to be able to handle the unexpected moments that can sometimes arise!
What do I need to get started? (N.B. this is important)

What do I need to get started? (N.B. this is important)
- A mountain bike will do, or a road bike (but any kind of bike will do to start). The bike must be in good working condition.
- A CE approved helmet IS required to ride with the Clydesdale Colts. This is for your safety!
- Clothing that is not baggy, so as not to get stuck in a bike chain and wheels. Special cycle clothing is more suitable. As a member of the Clydesdale Colts, our club kit will be available in due course at subsidised prices.
- Training shoes, with laces fastened tight and tucked in. If you have cycling shoes to fasten into your pedals, these can be used.
- Some form of gloves to protect your hands. Warm gloves with fingers for winter, fingerless Track Mitts are excellent for summer use.
- Permission from your parents or guardian to take part. We will ask for 'parental consent' as part of the Membership form.
