Newsy Bits

Scottish Cycling Press Conference – Saturday 8th February 2013 at Strathclyde Country Park.

The event launched a brand new Youth Race Series in Scotland!  Scottish Power will sponsor the race series for 3 years with a seriously big investment.  This includes a specific post that will essentially run the series and ensure it is a professional outfit.  Not to mention a state of the art electronic chip timing system, branding and racing calendar.  This is going to kick off this year so it is going to directly impact a lot of the current crop of youth riders.

Representatives from Scottish Cycling and Scottish Power were present, and twelve Clydesdale Colts riders were the stars of the show, and took part in photo shoots, BBC Radio interviews and Rollapaluza racing! Click here to see videos

Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome thundered to the sound of the Colts on Sunday 13th January! Almost 30 Colts thoroughly enjoyed the fast track and they looked like seasoned trackies! Roll on next time, they say!

Club Championships - results now on website
Membership of the Club - now stands at 70 (48 kids and 22 adults). Not bad after only one year!
Paul Jones has also kindly elected to participate in the Scottish Cycling Coaching Course in 2013.
And there's more... Susannah Smith has now completed her Welfare Training and is now a qualified Welfare Officer. Well done and thanks, Susannah!

The Colts took part in a bag-packing day at Tescos, Lesmahagow on  Saturday, 17th November and charmed the customers into parting with the princely sum of £554.35. It was great to see them enjoying themselves, resplendent in their club jerseys, and having a nice rapport with the customers. Thanks to the kids and their parents for the fantastic effort put in for such a good cause. Thanks also to Tesco for giving the Club this opportunity to swell our funds. this is in addition to a £50 voucher that they presented to the Club earlier in the year. Thanks to Nora Kilgour, Tescos Community Officer for facilitating the receipt of such a lotta lolly!

The exercise also included handing out hundreds of Club Flyers, which was a great opportunity to let people know about us, what we do and where we do it. The customers deserve thanks too for responding to the Colts in such a positive way!

Four parents have signed up to the Scottish Cycling Level 2 Coaching Course to be held at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow. Scott Anderson, Stephen Monaghan, Jack Dickson and Willie Young will kindly take on this role, which will increase the coaching team to seven. This will be of great benefit to the Club and we look forward to seeing them 'take to the field' early next year.

Aileen McGlynn narrowly missed out on her third Paralympics gold in a row when she grabbed silver in the women's blind and visually impaired 1km time-trial. Aileen and Helen Scott missed out by just half a second at the London velodrome.
The 39-year-old won gold in Athens and Beijing with Ellen Hunter as pilot. Aileen praised the fantastic support and feverish atmosphere in the stadium, adding: "It's amazing, brilliant."

A number of the Colts were present at Uddingston Grammar School the day before as they took part in Channel 4's Hometown Roadshow. About 8 young Colts and their mums thoroughly enjoyed the experience of supporting Aileen in this way. Club Secretary, Dennis White, a former tandem road pilot of Aileen, was interviewed along with fellow pilot, David McKellar, on live TV by Channel 4's presenter, Katie Razzall. See pics

Aileen and Helen went on to win the Bronze medal two days later in the 3km pursuit. They were really pleased about this one as it is not their specialist event. Aileen has now won Gold and Silver in Athens, two Golds in Beijing and now, with a new pilot, a Silver and Bronze in London.

Congratulations Aileen!!!!

A big thank you and well done to Susannah Smith, who is about to complete the second of two courses to become a Club Welfare Officer for the Club. The training has also involved passing a First Aid Course. Not content with all that, Susannah has also accepted responsibility for the Club's First Aid Kit and Accident Book.

Club Jerseys - The first order was submitted at the end of April and the kit should be available shortly.
Those who missed this order can download a form here adults or kids or get one at the coaching sessions at Chatelherault. Sample jerseys for kids are also available there for sizing purposes. The Club is pleased to announce that it has subsidised the cost of the kids' jerseys by 50%! We are looking forward to seeing all the Colts in their fine livery! Date of the next order is not yet known and will depend on demand.

This new website has been created for the purposes of communicating with parents and their children and for promoting the Club. Please feel free to pass comments and ideas to the webteam. Please tell everyone you know!

Membership is building up well - around 55, and growing - and durable membership cards are now available at the Admin Registration Point at the Chatelherault Sessions. The idea is to hand in your card on arrival and collect it afterwards. Also, it's your very own keepsake!
